Dial-Up

With Dial-up Internet service it's been said the best you will ever get is up to 52k in an area that is good. Now if you live in an area that is not considered a good area for Dial-Up, Your speeds will be a lot slower - perhaps only 20K-30K (and sometimes lower) range, depending where you live. Then you also have to consider that with most Dial-Up connections, they have a tendency  of dropping the connection when you are in the middle of something important. And this all in addition to tying up your phone line or worse -- paying for an additional phone line that may end up costing you more than one of our plans, and you're still stuck with those slow speeds!

Cable/DSL

With these services you can get good speeds. Beware that sometimes they offer good Download speeds (Receiving  E-mail, Downloading Files, etc.), but limit the Upload speeds (Sending E-mail, Sending Files, Web Design, etc.) to a Fraction  of the Download Speed. These services are usually  limited to city areas, and often run slower the farther you are from their main access point.

Satellite 

Satellite systems are usually very costly. You can get good Download speeds (Receiving  E-mail, Downloading Files, etc.), but you are usually limited on your  Upload speeds (Sending E-mail, Sending Files, Web Design, etc.) to that of Dial-up service speeds.
